Aries

MAGNETAT or MAGNETES or AIMANT (MAGNET) (1^st degree of the sign of Aries)

Description: Black, a little bit towards red. The best ones are the ones that look blue. It is located in many places. It pulls the iron with great force, marvelling that, being that the iron defeats all other metals by the force it has, this stone defeats it and makes it come to itself obediently. To lose its power, it must be placed in garlic or onion water for 3 days and 3 nights. To regain it, it must be put in goat’s blood for another 3 days and 3 nights, shedding the blood every day.
Healing/medicinal properties: Carried by weak hearted men, it gives strength, and if they are strong, it strengthens them. If the ground stone mixed with oil is given to a man poisoned with iron filings or another poisons mixed with iron or wounded with poisoned iron, it will come out from underneath and heal. Curative/medicinal properties:
►Green Jasper has the colour of the stone called Prasma. Hanging from the neck, it helps in throat illnesses, as it ends the pains and heals them soon. Moreover, if you look at it every day in the morning, it strengthens the vision and comforts the spirit of the person who wears it and gives him/her joy.
►White wine Jasper (which turns to red-yellow) is known as Cumynon and is beautiful, clear and translucent. It is the most precious of all. The one who carries it heals from the called falling sickness (epilepsy). It is good for the diseases that come from melancholy, straining the heart and making it happy. That is why it is included in the medicines that treat these illnesses. Ground up and given to drink to the one with the sore intestines, it heals much more quickly.
►Jasper with translucent white veins is the noblest of all jaspers. It is called Astarnuz, which means “similar to a star”, since the veins shine like a star. When it is put into the fire and stays longer, the more it increases its light and beauty. The one who carries it strengthens his heart and gives him joy and allows man to do his business with ease. If the one who has a bellyache or a liverache hangs up the stone, he is healed if the disease is new; if it is old, he gets great benefit and does not allow it to advance.

Tauro

DIAMOND or MEZ (1^st degree of the sign of Taurus)

The stones are toxic, because of their angular shape the beasts scratch on them and transmit poison to them. So when men put them in their mouths for a long time, their teeth fall out. Also, if they are given to drink ground, in weight equivalent to a drachma, along with ground Tin, the man dies.

CORAL (11^th degree of the sign of Taurus)

Description:

It forms in the sea, as a tree, and while it is there it is soft and, when they take it out, in contact with the air, it hardens. It resembles the so-called sea grass. It is found in many places. It is opaque and reddish in colour, the more the better.
Healing/medicinal properties: Its property is to constipate. If it is given to drink, ground and dissolved in wine or something, to those who spit blood, it helps a lot. It does the same to those who cannot urinate.Drunk with some liquor, it will undo the abscess that forms in the spleen.
★ Coral is made up of colonies of many small animals, called polyps.

BLACK CORAL (12^th degree of the sign of Taurus)

Description: It has the same characteristics as coral, but its smell is stronger and it is drier.
Healing/medicinal properties: It has all the virtues of the red coral, and in addition, if it is drunk ground it helps to the sores of the intestines and to the tremor of the heart, entering inside the medicines that are given for the happiness. SEDINECH o AMATITES (HEMATITES) (2º grado del signo de Sagitario)

Descripción: De color bermejo, es fácil de quebrantar. Piedra muy conocida. Es mejor cuanto más tinta (rojo oscuro), más limpia y si no se desbrizna.
Propiedades curativas/medicinales: Adelgaza la gordura de las cuencas de los ojos. Mezclada con leche de mujer, sana la oftalmía (inflamación de los ojos) y las llagas de los ojos. Sus limaduras rojas son muy buenas para sanar la sarna y comezón de los ojos.
Mezclada con vino, sana el mal producido por retención de la orina y hace que las mujeres que enferman por frecuente sangrado, lo pierdan. Igualmente se beneficia aquel que escupe sangre, ya que sana más rápidamente.
Aúna fuerza retentiva con agudeza, por lo que es muy preciada. Para aumentar sus efectos, hay que beberla con vino, previamente quemada y reducida a polvo.
★ La piedra Hematites pertenece a la Clase Óxidos, es un Óxido de Hierro, y su Fórmula Química es Fe₂O₃. Hematites deriva de una palabra griega que significa “sangre” y se denomina también Oligisto.

AZARNECH o ZINDERCH u OROPIMENTE (12º y 13º grados del signo de Sagitario)

Descripción: Hay dos variedades, una de color bermejo y otra jalde (amarillento). Se halla en muchas partes.
Propiedades curativas/medicinales: Quemada, reducida a polvo y colocada sobre los dientes y encías, se obtiene gran provecho. Colocada sobre el cabello, lo rae, incluso, si se mantiene mucho tiempo, quema la carne.
► La piedra bermeja es ligera de quebrantar. Molida y mezclada con zumo de visquiamo y aplicada sobre los cabellos raídos, no nacerán nunca más. Mezclada con resina, sana la alopecia. Mezclándola con pez, quita las gotas blancas que salen en las uñas. Se usa como medicamento contra las enfermedades de la nariz, de la boca, de llagas, de fístulas y de hemorroides. Es buena para meter en las medicinas que hacen para los que tienen afección en los pechos. Si ahúman con ella al que tiene tos antigua obtiene gran provecho y, si comen un poco de ella mezclada con miel, aclara mucho la voz.
► La piedra jalde es la más noble. Es de color oro y está formada por hojas. Mezclada con cal, es tóxico mortal. Molida y mezclada con leche, mata a toda mosca que se acerque. Mezclada con aceite o cera es buena para el que es azotado o para las heridas de rascamiento, eliminando la carne mala. Sana la enfermedad corrosiva que se forma en la boca (fermes estiominus) y mezclada con la grasa del cerdo, cura las apostemas.
★ Cada una de las variedades podrían corresponderse con el Rejalgar (bermeja) y el Oropimente (amarilla) respectivamente. Ambas pertenecen a la Clase Sulfuros, son Sulfuros de Arsénico, y su Fórmula Química es AsS (Rejalgar) y As₂S₃ (Oropimente).

STONES OF SALT (18th and 19th grade of the sign of Sagittarius)

► Gem Salt takes care that bad flesh does not grow in sores, it is also good for the abscess that come from the phlegm or that suffer the hydropics. Drinking a little of it, it purges the phlegm. It is one of the medicines made for the disease related to a grape-shaped tumour in the uvula and also for the abscess that grows in the throat (it could be tonsillitis). It heals the insteps. Mixed with mastranto and applying the poultice in the wound of the scorpion, it is very good. Also in poultice, it is used in Egypt as the best medicine for the wound of the atimzach. It also makes you vomit. ★ These Salt Stones correspond to Halite, of the Halides Class, whose Chemical Formula is ClNa.

 

AXEP or ALUM (21st of the sign of Sagittarius) Description: They illuminate and clarify everything that is cooked with them. They are used for dyeing and the dyed receives very beautiful and clear colours.There are several types, highlighting three (zacaztir, zatiriculi, uguria / ayamei) and have various colours (green, white gray, yellow). They all have an acidic taste and break easily. Healing/medicinal properties: They are good for eliminating the excess film from the eyes and the leftover flesh from any place that is, they enter into the medicines that are made for the scabies, propitiated by the excessive humidity, and heals the sores that are made in the mouth. If it is burnt, it is mixed with something and smeared on the armpits, it removes the bad smell. It helps the gums and the cracks that are made by the scabies, called scrofula. ★ Alum belongs to the Sulphates Class and its Chemical Formula is KAl(SO₄)₂ • 12H₂O.

Capricornio

ZEBECH or JET (4th degree of the sign of Capricorn) Description: It is very black, hard, light, easy to break and reflects like a mirror. It is found in many places. Its appearance resembles boards, some thicker and others thinner. It can be carved in any shape you want. Healing/medicinal properties: Ground up and mixed with the medicines made to sharpen the eyesight, it helps a lot. Likewise, if the stone is made into a mirror, looking into it will greatly improve one’s eyesight, even if it was deteriorated due to old age or illness. ★ Jet is a variety of Carbon formed by plant debris.

 

CARNELIAN or ALAAQUIC (6th degree of the sign of Capricorn) Description: Of red color throwing to yellow, is clear, bright and transparent. There is another species that resembles the water that goes out of the meat when throwing salt to it, which is less noble. It is located in many places. It is very beautiful. Healing/medicinal properties: It is good to stagnate the blood, especially for women, when it comes out more than it should. In powder form and applied to the teeth, it cleans them and makes them clear, growing flesh on them and making the gums very red. These effects are greater in the variety whose color resembles the water that comes out of the flesh when salt is added. TALC or ALFATH or ARAT ARAROZA (10th degree of the sign of Capricorn) Description: It has the colour of shells and is found in many places. Arat Araroza means “bridal sweat”. It was believed that it was formed when the dew settled on the earth, arranging itself like films, one over the other. If it is hit with a hammer, it falls apart into sheets, which are used as lights for baths, as if it were glass. The thinner they are, the more they let the light through. If it is ground, it turns to dust. Healing/medicinal properties: If a limb is smeared with talcum powder, it does not burn as quickly as a limb that has not been smeared. It retains the blood of those who spit because of illness or women, when they bleed more than they should.It helps to heal moisture-damaged flesh, whether it is in women’s breasts or in men’s virile members or behind the ears. It also cleans the sores that appear on top of the curved and non-moving fingers, and they heal. ★ Talc belongs to the Silicates Class, subclass Philosilicates, being its chemical formula (Si₄O₁₀) Mg₃ (OH)₂.

YESO (19º grado del signo de Capricornio)

Descripción: De color blanco, bermejo o una mezcla de ambos, blanda y fácil de quebrantar. Se localiza en muchos lugares. Molida y mezclada con alguna cosa, endurece y se hace piedra. Se usa como material para la construcción de casas.
Propiedades curativas/medicinales: Se usa en las medicinas desecativas. Se usa para estancar la sangre cuando sale mucha. Quemada es mucho más eficaz para retener la humedad y lo es aún más amasada con vinagre, deteniendo el sudor del cuerpo que haya sido untado con esa masa. Si de ella se bebe antes de ser quemada, es veneno mortal.
