CRYSTAL FORM: prism, pinacoid (tabular crystals); can appear in radial form.
COLOR: colorless, white, blue, yellowish.
It takes its name from the celestial blue color of one of its varieties.
PHYSICAL PROPERTIES: semi-hard (3/3.5 Mohs), heavy (3.96 g/cm3), fragile, perfect basal cleavage, transparent/translucent, vitreous/pearly luster, weakly soluble in water and acids, melts easily with decrepitation, coloring to the flame in red (Strontium) and forming a white pearl.
